Citizen Science promoting antibiotic stewardship, discovery of new antimicrobials and monitoring of soil resistance

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing public health issue. To combat this, researchers have expanded the MicroMundo@Oeiras project to the Lisbon Municipality, focusing on soil microbial biodiversity and educating the community about AMR. The project has also extended protocols to characterize resistant soil bacteria to antibiotics like amoxicillin, tetracycline, and ciprofloxacin. The project has also created a public database to regularly update AMR frequency data from unconventional monitoring sites.
